Yes, Ramsey is a rookie. Yes, he is coming off of a minor knee surgery. No, neither of those things will stop him from being one of the better players on the Jaguars roster in 2016 and beyond.
Jalen Ramsey was viewed by many, including myself, to be the top prospect in the 2016 NFL Draft class. Luckily for the Jaguars two quarterbacks, a defensive end, and a running back were drafted prior to the Jaguars fifth overall pick, which allowed them to draft the player they wanted the whole time.
That player was Jalen Ramsey, the ultra-athletic alpha dog from Florida State. His measurables are truly off the charts. Standing at 6 feet 1 inch, weighing in at 210 pounds, Ramsey is able to leap 41.5’’ from a stand still and he can run a 4.4 second forty yard dash. His talent speaks for itself, but what will make him one of the best defenders in the NFL is his attitude. His expectations for himself are higher than anyone else’s. Swagger, skill, work ethic, and effortless athleticism make Ramsey one of the most exciting players in the entire NFL heading into the 2016 season. Sure, there will be a learning curve and there will be some bumps in the road for the 21-year-old cornerback from Smyrna, Tennessee, but to deny that he will have a major impact on the Jaguars defense and team as a whole in 2016 would be an outright lie.
Ramsey will start from day one, whether it be outside or inside at the nickel. He will be the most athletic player in the Jaguars secondary from the get go and exudes confidence on the field and off it. When Ramsey hits the field for the Jaguars on September 11th against the Packers he will be in for a huge test against Aaron Rodgers and the high octane Packers offense. But Ramsey will be up for the task . . . he always has been.
