Hey friends! I hope you all had a great Christmas and are looking forward to the start of a new year with 2017! Let’s be honest, 2016 probably didn’t go the way we all wanted to, whether it was related to sports (unless you’re a Cubs fan), all of the amazing talent we lost this year, or for some personal reason.
But that doesn’t mean 2016 was a total waste. There was a lot of good that happened in 2016! Maybe you’re like me, and you found a new job that you love! Maybe you got married, or had your first child! (Congratulations!) Or maybe, just maybe, this was the year you decided to dream big and start going after those big goals you have been wanting to get to for years!
Today’s post is going to be special, and calls for a different kind of introduction. Today, I’m going to be looking back on all of the amazing parts of 2016, from the ever changing social media scene, to my favorite cheap eats here in town, to one of Disney’s biggest expansions yet!
This year we got a whole lot of change on social media, but most of it happened on Instagram. From something simple like a logo change, to them thinking it was a grand idea to make all of our feeds based on an algorithm instead of chronologically. But one of the biggest additions is Instagram Stories.
Basically like Snapchat for Instagram, but for me, I like it better since I’m not on Snapchat. The most recent addition is similar to Periscope, where you can go live on Instagram and interact with followers in real time. No matter what you think of these new changes, you have to admit social media changed in a pretty big way this year.
One of my favorite trends this year was tea length pleated skirts. They are so easy to dress up for a date, or dress down to wear out running errands. I love this one from TopShop. The color is beautiful, and goes with so much! There’s a slight metallic shine to it, which makes it easy to pair with gold, silver, or rose gold accessories.
I think we can all agree that the biggest sports story of 2016 was the Chicago Cubs winning the World Series! What an amazing story after all of those years waiting and waiting. There’s nothing like a championship game in sports, whether its baseball, football, basketball or something else, but that series was incredible! It’s one that I think many of us are going to remember for a long time to come.
What makes it even more special for me, is that I happened to be at Disney when some of the Cubs players had their World Series Celebration parade, and I got to see it with my mom, who has loved the Cubs her whole life!
One of my favorite cheap eats spots is in St. Augustine right next to the beach, and honestly, you’ve probably passed a million times. Located right next to First Street is Burrito Works Taco Shop. This little shack has some of the best burritos, tacos, and burrito bowls ever! You get to pick your meat, and your “style” from “The Works” or “Baja” and a few minutes later the guys who run the place are calling your name with delicious food! My favorite thing to get here are the fish tacos, baja style. The fish is always fresh, along with the rest of the ingredients. And since you’re so close to the beach you can take your food right down to the sand to eat, or hang out on their porch to eat. The only thing to note here is that their parking lot is VERY SMALL, and there can sometimes be a line to park.
If you haven’t had the opportunity to see Carrie Underwood yet, you need get tickets to one of her shows! This year she opened her Storyteller Tour here in Jacksonville, and let me just tell you, that it was incredible! She is a great performer, and is so worth the money for concert tickets to go see. No matter how many times I see Carrie Underwood, I still think that she can’t get any better, then she goes and does it. This was probably the event of the year for me, outside of sports and Disney.
If you all have been around for a while then you know that I love Disney, which is why we have to have a Disney section here! This year Disney did so much and opened a lot of new things that I would need a whole book to cover them all. But the absolute number one thing the Disney Company did this year was open Shanghai Disney Resort. This massive park, Downtown Disney district, and hotel plaza opened in June and has been making waves in the Disney community ever since! One of my goals in the next few years is to go to Shanghai to see the park that Disney’s saying is authentically Disney and distinctly Chinese.
